Tourism to contribute US$ 250 bn to GDP

Indian tourism sector is expected to recover by mid-2024 from the disastrous effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The contribution of this sector in India’s GDP is expected to be US$250 billion by 2030, according to the central government. A three-day national conference of tourism was held where ministers of various states also participated. Union minister G Kishan Reddy urged all states to share and adopt best practices to enhance the sector.

“States must organise such conferences at the state level with district officers of different departments and stakeholders to improve and promote tourism destinations,” Reddy stated.

‘Dharamshala Declaration’ was adopted by the leaders which includes the long-term and short-term goals for the India’s tourism sector. Next year India will host the G-20 summit. By then, India wants to see itself as a major tourism destination sector. To revive the India’s tourism sector a holistic vision and strategy has been mentioned in the draft, and it aims to contribute US$ 1 trillion to the GDP by 2047.
