China, US gear up to mitigate climate change

The US and China are announcing major financial attacks on climate change. The two biggest economies are also the largest carbon polluters in the world. Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China will no longer fund coal-fired power plants abroad, while S President Joe Biden announced a plan to double financial aid to poorer nations to USD11.4 billion by 2024 so those countries could switch to cleaner energy. These announcements are likely to provide some momentum going into major climate talks in Glasgow, Scotland, in less than six weeks, experts said. Joanna Lewis, an expert on China, said that China’s decision essentially ends all public support for coal globally as China was the only significant funder of overseas coal left.
