A committee to be set up on energy efficiency

A committee will be established which will include members from the all the relevant ministries in order for the implementation of Roadmap on Energy Efficiency and low carbon technologies, said R K Singh, Minster of Power and Renewable Energy. A high level meeting was chaired by Singh on 17 June 2021, with the objective to reduce the CO2 emission. The meeting’s objective was to review the progress in energy efficiency programmes and the preparedness for Climate Change Actions.

Singh urged to focus on sectors with highest CO2 emission intensity such as Transport, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Power plants. He also emphasised the activities defined under the Mission document ”ROSHANEE ” which has been developed to implement a series of Energy Conservation schemes across the country.

He also advised the Ministries to adopt measures on demand side initiatives with the purpose to minimise the wastage of energy. He further said the deployment of low carbon technologies need to be adopted on a large scale, especially in MSMEs.

Alok Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Power, said that cooling sector, cold storage and cooking are three key areas which need to be focused on to achieve the targets for reduction in CO2 emission. He further emphasised on exploring the shift of Goods from Road transport to Railways.
