Department of Commerce along with TPCI launches “Indus Food”- a mega international food and beverage trade show.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative by the Union Government, the Department of Commerce (DoC) along with Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) on 25th july’ 2017, Tuesday launched “Indus Food”- a mega international food and beverage trade show- in a bid to showcase India’s diverse and wide range of food products to global consumers.
Coined as “World’s Food Supermarket”, the event aims to provide a common platform for food exhibitors to display their products in the “global arena” and connect with their global counterparts while eyeing to present a wide variety of local products including dairy products, spices and poultry among others to over 500 international purchasers and importers.
The unique venture comes as a major boost to the expanding domestic food processing market providing a push to employment and revenue generation in one of India’s fastest growing segments while reinterating India’s position in the global food industry
“Indus Food is a brilliant initiative that will provide a much-needed platform to Indian exporters to connect, network and explore new partnerships with global buyers. India remains a strategic location with prosperous crops and suitable climate despite a consistent decline in food exports for the past two years “said Rita Teaotia, Secretary, Department of Commerce, pressing the essentiality of the trade event on the country’s agro-economy.
About 400 participants from 35 countries are expected to participate in the two-day show starting from January 18 next year. The Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) is organising this show with the ministry.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohit Singla, Chairman, TPCI, said in spite of such a huge potential, India lacked a platform of its own, which highlights the food production capacities of the country.
“We are organising this show on the lines of globally established food trade shows like SIAL, Anuga and Gulfood. We are sure that Indus food will immensely help the buyers to establish the required network and expand their businesses internationally,” he said.
