US ready for more tariffs on China if talks fail

US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross has affirmed that President Donald Trump is ready to impose additional tariffs on the remaining US$ 300 billion worth of imports from China if the trade deal does not materialise. He stated during an interview at the Paris Airshow, “We will eventually make a deal, but if we don’t, the president is perfectly happy with continuing the tariff movements that we’ve already announced, as well as imposing the new ones that he has temporarily suspended.” Treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin had confirmed the same last week. On May 10, US increased tariffs on US$ 200 billion of Chinese imports after Trump alleged that China went back on its commitments made during the trade negotiations.
