Tepid Indian apparel exports: CMAI

An update by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), revealed that India exported US$ 1.36 bn worth of apparel in July, which was 7% more than July 2018 and 11% more than June 2019. However, as per the provisional data for August 2019, there seems to be a renewed decline of 2% on a year-on-year basis, and 8% on a month-on-month basis.

The findings also suggested that during April to July, almost all Indian fashion brands and apparel manufacturers reported an increase in their revenues. Having accounted for sales worth US$ 1.47 billion, the US is by far the largest export market for Indian apparel during this period. Exports to Saudi Arabia and Japan also rose by 59% and 8% respectively; while those to the UK and Germany declined by 2% and 11% respectively.
