Over 500 mn active Internet users in India: IAMAI

The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI)’s ‘Digital in India’ report states that an estimated 71 million children (or 14% individuals) aged between 5-11 years in India access the Internet on devices of their family member. The findings suggest that there were at least 504 million active Internet users who logged onto the web at least once in the last one month, at the end of November 2019.

The study highlights that nearly 70% of the active Internet population in India are daily users. Further, nine out of 10 Internet users in urban India access Internet at least once a week, while in rural areas the number of accessing Internet daily had grown by 30 million from March 2019. Urban India continues to spend more time online than rural India.

Further, around 26 million new female Internet users were added in November 2019. “While the proportion of male Internet users in rural India is more than double than female Internet users, usage of Internet among females is growing at a fast clip,” it stated.
