India gears up to export non-surgical masks worth $1bn

The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) is gearing up to export non-medical and non-surgical masks worth US $1 billion within the next three months. This comes after the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT)  on Saturday eased restrictions on outbound shipments of these products.

The latest notification allows the export of non-medical and non-surgical masks of all types including cotton, silk, wool and knitted. It is expected that this decision will further boost the production of masks in the country since there is a huge demand for the export of these products.

“The Council assures the government that it will ensure exports of these items to the tune of USD 1 billion within the next three months,” AEPC Chairman A Sakthivel said.
