China can inflict sanctions on US: WTO
On Tuesday, WTO’s appeals judges said that US could face Chinese sanctions if it does not remove tariffs that violate WTO rules. In an earlier ruling, World Trade Organization (WTO) had ruled in favour of China, when it filed a case against United States’ anti-subsidy tariffs on its exports. These included Chinese aluminium extrusions, solar panels, wind towers and steel cylinders valued at US$ 7.3 billion as of 2012, when the case was filed. US has not fully complied with the terms laid down by the ruling since it has enforced certain tariffs that are incompatible with the guidelines of the Geneva-based multilateral trade body.
