Global size of tourism and travel Industry is USD 1,199 Billion and India has immense potential to expand and burgeon her industry size globally. The Indian Tourism and Hospitality industry is one of the key growth drivers in the service sector in India. According to World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the Indian travel and tourism industry is ranked 5th in the long-term growth and is expected to be the second largest employer in the world by 2019.
India has moved up 13 positions to 52nd rank in Tourism & Travel competitive index. The number of Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) has grown steadily in the last three years reaching around 7.103 million during January to November 2015. The tourism and hospitality sector is among the top 15 sectors in India in terms of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) attainment. During the period April 2000-September 2015, the sector attracted around USD 8.48 billion of FDI.
Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs) from tourism during January-November 2015 were INR 1,12,958 crore (USD 16.94 billion). The third-largest sub-segment of the services sector comprising trade, repair services, hotels and restaurants contributed reached a revenue of USD 187.9 billion in 2014-15.
