TPCI organizes webinar on Data Protection Laws: DPDPA & GDPR

The Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI), in collaboration with Saga Legal, organized a webinar on “India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA), 2023 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union” on 26th August 2025.

The session brought together legal, industry, and regulatory experts to examine how India’s DPDPA aligns with international frameworks, particularly the GDPR. Speakers shared insights on the key similarities between the two legislations, sector-specific compliance challenges, and practical strategies for businesses navigating data protection in a rapidly digitalizing economy. Emphasis was placed on how compliance should be viewed not merely as a regulatory obligation, but as a strategic advantage that enhances consumer trust, strengthens global competitiveness, and future-proofs cross-border operations.

The discussions also highlighted the immediate priorities for Indian businesses under the DPDPA, including building internal compliance systems, ensuring accountability in data processing, and addressing the complexities of cross-border data transfers. Participants gained clarity on practical approaches to readiness and best practices to manage compliance both within India and in international operations.

The distinguished panel included:

  • Ms. Vara Gaur, Partner in Litigation & Dispute Resolution at Saga Legal, leading the Technology, Media, and Telecom disputes vertical.
