US to host world’s 1st yoga university outside India
The world’s first yoga university outside India – Vivekananda Yoga University (VAYU) – has established its initial campus in Los Angeles, USA, with a budget of US$ 5 million. The admissions for its post graduation course along with research in the ancient Indian practice will begin in April; while the classes will commence later this year. Sree Sreenath, a Professor from Case Western University and Indian yoga guru H R Nagendra will serve as its President and Chairman, respectively.
As Swami Vivekananda said education is the manifestation of perfection already in man, VAYU aims at providing man-making and nation-building education by promoting an all-round personality development in students of generation next,” Nagendra informed reporters. It is being said that the university is the brain child of Nagendra.
The university enable collaborative research, credit transfers and joint programmes with multiple premier universities across the world. It will also assist thousands of yoga teachers in the US whose yoga education was limited to 200 or 500 hours of certificate programmes to progress further into university-based higher education.
