US removes country cap on Green Card

US law makers have scrapped the 7% country-cap on issuing Green Cards. This is great news for thousands of highly-skilled Indian IT professionals who currentlyhold H-1B visas. A green card allows a person to live and be employed permanently in the US. If passed, the bill would condense the period required to get a Green Card by Indian professions currently living in the US.

According to the Congressional Research Service (CRS), this bill enhances the per-country quota on family-based immigrant visas from 7% of the total number of such visas available that year to 15%. It also eradicates the 7% cap for employment-based immigrant visas.
