US-China trade deal unlikely this year

Trade experts are of the opinion that a US-China trade deal might not materialise until next year. Currently, the 2 superpowers are embroiled in negotiations, with Beijing demanding that Washington roll back the tariffs imposed on it. The Trump administration has so far resisted this demand by raising heightened demands of its own.

Rolling back tariffs for a deal that fails to address core intellectual property and technology transfer issues will not be seen as a good deal for the United States, according to President Trump & U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer. “If talks are really going well, that hike will be suspended,” said Christian Whiton, Center for the National Interest.
