Theresa May to resign, leaving Brexit undone

In the backdrop of continued uncertainty over Brexit, Theresa May has announced her decision to step down as Britain’s Prime Minister on 7th June, 2019. She stated, “I will resign as leader of the Conservative and Unionist party on Friday, 7th June so that a successor can be chosen”.

This has created room for a fresh debate on Brexit, depending on who becomes the next PM. However, EU has said that it will not renegotiate the withdrawal treaty sealed in November. The UK is due to leave the European Union at 23:00 GMT on October 31, 2019. If it so happens that the UK and EU ratify the withdrawal agreement before then, the UK will leave on the first day of the following month.
