Tata Motors closes China plant due to Coronavirus

Taking into account the rapid outbreak of the Corona Virus in China, Tata Motors, one of the largest Indian employers in China, asked its 3,000 personnel recruited there to work from home. The Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) that it runs in partnership with Chery Automobile Co is located in Changshu, about 800 km from Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak.

“Our first priority is people and we have to monitor the health of employees on a daily basis so that if any situation occurs we can offer help to the employee,” Tata Motors group CFO PB Balaji opined. The plant has the capacity to produce 200,000 units a year. Further, China’s sales accounted for nearly a fifth of JLR’s total volumes after including local production.
