Sugar to be exported to China & Iran

Indian sugar producers are all set to commence exports to China, East Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Iran. In fact, Indonesia, South East Asia’s biggest country, has already decided to procure sugar from India. Given the fact that India has record sugar stocks available, it does not even have to wait for the new crop.

 This coincides with the coming into force of fresh government subsidies worth RS 6,268 crore to for exports of as much as 6 million tonne of sugar in 2019-20. However, countries like Australia, Brazil and Guatemala have approached the World Trade Organization (WTO) to set up a panel to challenge India’s subsidies.
