PPE shops at airports in India

Gearing up for the new normal – the life where Covid-19 will become a part and parcel of our daily lives – shops at airports in India will have a dedicated outlet to sell Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to travellers. These shops will be situated within the check-in area, near the departure area or on the city-side of the airport as per the availability of space. Face masks, gloves, disposable goggles, coverall or gowns and sanitizers manufactured as per the guidelines of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will be available for sale at these outlets.

It is believed that Airports Authority of India has already rolled out the process of inking contracts with private parties through tenders for half-a-dozen airports and these shops could be operational from June. These include tenders for Amritsar, Pune, Patna, Coimbatore and Agartala airports. AAI is stressing that PPE should be affordably priced at these outlets and under no circumstances should this safety gear by priced above the MRP.

The AAI is also making sure that the retail outlet must be able to accept payments by debit and credit cards, e-wallets like PayTM, Mobikwik, Freecharge, Reliance-Jio, GooglePay etc. and UPI payments like BHIM.
