New investments in India on continuous decline

New investments in the Indian economy have continued to decline for the fourth consecutive year in 2018-19. The previous fiscal saw new investments at Rs 9.76 trillion, compared to Rs 20.86 trillion in FY 2014-15. This decline has happened despite the fact that announcements were higher in 2018-19 at Rs 17.25 trillion, compared to Rs 12.16 trillion in 2017-18.

New project announcements have come down in the past two years, with a majority of them driven by the government in the road transport and services sector. Meanwhile, the share of private sector investment has risen from 44% in 2014-15 to 66% in 2018-19.
