The recent data released by China’s customs authority has stated that India’s exports of marine products to China tripled in the last nine months touching US$ 800 million. The figure is expected to cross the US$ 1 billion mark this year. This was one of the strategies devised to bridge India’s staggering trade deficit with China – which amounted to US$ 57 billion last year.
India is the second largest aquaculture producer, 3rd largest fish producer in the world with exports of marine products worth USD 7 billion and the 4th largest exporter of seafood in the world; while China imports sea food of about US$ 12 billion.
