Low imports lead to the stability of onion prices

Owing to the fact that countries such as Turkey and Sri Lanka have curbed exports of onions to India, the prices of this vegetable are expected to remain somewhat firm till mid-February. “Import of onions from Sri Lanka has stopped as the process of issuing phytosanitary documents has been made strict by that country, while three days ago Turkey banned onion exports,” stated Ajit Shah, a Mumbai-based onion importer. However, onions from Egypt & Afghanistan are still available. Fresh harvest of onions is likely to ease the soaring prices of onions.
