IT Dept working on real-time issuing of e-PAN

Minister of State for Finance Shri Anurag Thakur informed the Parliament that the government has initiated projects to enhance the technology backbone of the Income Tax department. This would result in enhanced time-bound services to the taxpayers as well as increase their voluntary compliance. The department is also working on a PAN-TAN centre for the same. It plans to roll out ‘Project Insight’ to strengthen non-invasive information driven approach for improving compliance.

Tax Deduction and Collection Account number (TAN) is a 10-digit alphanumeric number which every tax deductor needs to quote while making any tax payment to the Central Government. Permanent Account Number (PAN) is also a 10-digit alphanumeric code issued by the I-T department to uniquely identify tax payers.
