Indo-US trade deal in February

India and the US are expected to consummate a major trade deal valued at around US$ 10 billion (over Rs 71,000 crore) in the coming
month during a visit by United States Trade Representative (USTR) Robert Lighthizer to New Delhi. It will be signed during US President Donald Trump’s visit to India. Lighthizer and commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal are expected to meet in the second week of February to finalise the terms of the deal. According to officials, the two sides have resolved issues pertaining to medical devices. India also wants restoration of GSP benefits, while US is looking for cuts in duties for its ICT products, market access to dairy goods and duty cuts on motorcycles.
