India’s shrimp exports to US rise by 14% in H1, 2019

India’s shrimp exports to the US have increased by 14% YoY during January-June 2019 to reach 115,694 tonnes, even as US imports of the product witnessed a marginal decline. This information was provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. US imports of shrimp for the period stood at 300,683 tonnes compared to 302,495 tonnes in the same period of 2018. India is the second-largest fish producer globally and accounts for nearly 6% of the global fish production. Growth in shrimp exports is expected to slow down after stiff competition from other suppliers, stricter controls and tariff barriers.
