India number 1 on clean energy investment

India has been ranked number 1 in clean energy investment rankings among 104 emerging markets worldwide according to a BloombergNEF survey. It was followed by Chile, Brazil, China and Kenya in the top five. The survey assessed the ability of these markets to attract capital for low-carbon energy sources as they built a greener economy. “India’s aggressive policy framework and copious capacity expansions propelled it to first place in 2019, from second in 2018. The Indian market is home to one of the world’s most ambitious renewable energy targets and has held the largest-ever auction for clean power generation,” BNEF stated. India was also found to have organised the most competitive and large-scale auctions for clean energy power-delivery contracts, leading to procurement of the equivalent of 19 GW in 2018 alone.
