India must liberalise e-commerce: Amazon

Amazon India Head Amit Agarwal has opined in an interview with Reuters that India must reduce its e-commerce restrictions to revive the economy. He stated, “There is so much opportunity to just let ecommerce thrive versus trying to define every single guard rail under which it should operate.” Amit further added that Amazon is presently working with around 500,000 sellers and has generated 200,000 jobs in India since its launch in 2013. It has also reported US$ 1 billion in exports, which could reach US$ 5 billion in three years. But Amit feels that red tape is holding some businesses back. India made changes in e-commerce rules in November last year, which have greatly impacted the operations of Amazon and Flipkart (under Walmart) in the country.
