India demands harmonization of GAP standards in SAARC

With the intention to boost regional trade, India has called for having a uniform standard for Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) among SAARC nations. “GAP is a crucial tool for India to increase agricultural exports and become a 5 trillion economy by 2024,” noted SK Malhotra, India’s Agricultural Commissioner, Quality Council of India.

GAP is a standard that defines appropriate methodology and inputs that are to be followed by farmers to produce safe and high quality agricultural products. QCI developed and is managing the Indian version of GAP, called INDGAP.  “GAP is a crucial tool for India to increase agricultural exports and become a 5 trillion economy by 2024,” according to India’s Agricultural Commissioner SK Malhotra.
