HRD Ministry directs IITs to improve intl rank

Ensuing the concern of Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ about the issue of rankings of the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the ministry has asked the educational institute to chalk out an action plan for the same.

This year, three premier Indian institutes — IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi, and IISc-Bangalore — had made it to the top 200 ranks in the prestigious world university rankings released by QS. However, none of the 3 institutions made it to the top 200 list in the ranking. In this regard, the HRD Ministry had also called a review meeting with officials at the London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (a prominent higher-education survey in the world) to understand why several prestigious Indian varsities didn’t make it to the list.
