Four new products get GI status

The Government of India has assigned GI tag to four new products from three states on August 16. These include Palani Panchamirtham in Palani Town, Tamil Nadu, Tawlhlohpuan and Mizo Puanchei from Mizoram and Tirur Betel leaf from Kerala. Palani Panchamirtham is a prasadam or religious offering in temples, and is therefore the first in its category to get a GI. Tawlhlohpuan is a fine quality fabric from Mizoram. Mizo Puanchei hails from the same state is is considered the most colourful textile in the Northeastern region. Tirur betel leaf from Mannapuram in Kerala is known for its medicinal properties.
