4.5 lakh PPE suits a day manufactured by India: Govt

Union Minister Smt. Smriti Irani took to twitter to state that  now over 600 companies in the country are certified to manufacture PPEs. She also added that India is now producing over 4.5 lakh Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) suits daily.

While earlier India relied on imported PPE kits, the country started manufacturing PPE kits within two months of the coronavirus outbreak. Some of the companies manufacturing PPEs include Alok Industries, JCT Phagwara, Gokaldas Exports, and Aditya Birla. Some government institutions have also been roped in for the same and are at the forefront of developing new technologies, materials, and testing facilities. These include South India Textile Research Association (SITRA) and Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO) and Ordnance Factory Board.
