Summer school on “ICT use in agriculture” begins at PAU

The Department of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana is organizing a 21 days Summer School on “ICT Use in Agriculture” from July 5 – 25. A total of 26 participants from different states viz. Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar Orissa, Assam and Punjab are participating in this refresher course.

On the inaugural function of the summer school, Shri Jaswinder Singh Bhalla, Head Dept. of Extension Education welcomed the Chief Guest Shri HS Dhaliwal, Dean, College of Agriculture and the Guest of Honour Shri Ravinder Kaur Dhaliwal, Director Students’ Welfare, PAU, Ludhiana. In his welcome address, he highlighted the importance of this summer school, contents to be covered and different approaches to be used. He emphasized that ICT in Agriculture is the need of the hour as ICT has application in every arena of today’s world.

While interacting with participants, Ravinder Kaur Dhaliwal highlighted the urgent need to extensively use ICT in agriculture as the ratio of extension workers to farmers is decreasing day by day. This gap can be bridged through ICT tools. She also stressed upon the use of ICT to network between agricultural research and extension fraternity at national level.
