Modi-Xi Brasilia meet could have RCEP talks

November 8, 2019

The upcoming meeting of India’s PM, Shri Narendra Modi with China’s President, Xi Jinping, during November 13-14 on the sidelines of BRICS Summit in Brasilia could include discussions on RCEP. This follows India’s decision to stay away from the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) in its current form at a recent RCEP Summit in Bangkok. China is keen on having India on board owing to the latter’s huge market opportunities.

In one of their earlier meetings, PM Modi had told President Xi that India looks forward to RCEP but it is important that a balance is maintained between trade in goods, services and investment. The latter, on his part had assured India that its concerns would be addressed.
