Prior to President Xi Jinping’s visit to US to sign a partial trade deal with President Donald Trump, China has sought the roll back of US tariffs on as much as US$ 360 billion of Chinese imports. These tariffs were imposed by US on about US$ 110 billion in goods in September, and about US$ 250 billion that last year. However, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and other officials have beeen consistently argued that the duties on the US$ 250 billion of goods are a way of making sure that China lives up to its commitments and should be in place for the long-term.
