India Mango Exports to USA Rises

Mango exports from two major Indian Irradiation centers Lasalgaon and Vashi to USA has reached to around 500 tonnes till June 4, 2016 season, as compared to the 328 tonnes during the same period last year.

According to the officials, exports would touch 650 tonnes this year by the end of the season, which is concluding by the first or second week of July. The market size of mangoes in the USA has expanded significantly, which according to them is evident from a rise in demand from 95 tonnes in 2010 to current 500 tonnes.

To export to USA, irradiation of Mangoes is mandatory. Mangoes are irradiated at Irradiation center of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) at Lasalgaon in Nashik district and Vashi (Mumbai) irradiation centre, set up by the Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Board (MSAMB) recently.

During 2014-15, India exported 42,998.31 MT of fresh Mangoes to the world, which stood at the value of USD 50.26 Million. Major importers the of Indian mangoes are United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and United States of America.
