US$ 300 bn rise in electronics manufacturing by ’26

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has highlighted a US$ 300 billion electronic production vision document. It aims at increasing the exports in electronics sector. The current data shows the exports are very low – only at US$ 15 billion while by 2026 it is expected to rise by US$ 120 billion. The increase in domestic market is expected from US$ 65 billion to US$ 180 billion over the next 5 years.

The Ministry in association with India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA) released a 5-year roadmap and Vision Document for the electronics sector, titled “$300 billion Sustainable Electronics Manufacturing & Exports by 2026”. Document gives details about target and the roadmap to electronic powerhouse by 2026. Major products expected to lead production include, mobile phones, IT hardware (laptops, tablets), consumer electronics (TV and audio), industrial electronics, auto electronics, electronic components, LED lighting, strategic electronics, PCBA, Wearables and hearables, and Telecom equipments. Mobile phones are expected to cross $100 billion. The current production lies at $30 billion while the report says the expected growth is around 40%.

ICEA Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo said “To witness India’s top ranking globally in the electronics industry, we need tactical and strategic steps for each product line and supportive directions to our domestic players”.
