J&K govt aims to revive Kashmir’s cinematic connect

The Jammu and Kashmir administration is planning to introduce a “new film policy for J&K” within ten days in order to ensure revival of the cinematic era in the region, as announced by lieutenant governor (LG) Manoj Sinha on Monday.

While addressing a two-day conference on ‘Tapping tourism potential of Kashmir’, at the International Convention Centre on the banks of Dal Lake, Sinha said that the government aims to encourage filmmakers to return to the valley, while also exploring the potential of new destinations.

He also added that tourist arrival numbers for Kashmir since December 2020 have been encouraging, aided by flight operations during the night. The new film policy, which has been prepared by the state government after detailed discussions with stakeholders, provides a blueprint to bring back the golden era of Kashmir back on the silver screen.

“We have been reading and hearing that Kashmir used to be the favourite destination for Bollywood stars and filmmakers in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. We as a team will work to bring back the same culture,” Sinha said.
