Investments touch 15-year low in June quarter

According to data by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, investments in new projects dropped to a 15-year low for the quarter ending June 2019. Indian companies from both the public and private sectors invested Rs 43,400 crore in new projects during the quarter, a decline of 81% QoQ and 87% YoY.  While these are provisional figures and are also attributed to the uncertainty surrounding elections, they are a worrying indicator of alarmingly low investments in India’s economy, a concern expressed by RBI earlier.
