Intl food crisis: India to raise food grain output

The Russia-Ukraine war has led to supply chain disruptions and the ensuing global food shortage. Amidst this international crisis, India has decided to step up and assist with this initiative. Addressing a session on ‘Redefining Food Systems with Emerging Technologies’ at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, said that although India is committed to this cause, with such a big population, her own need for food grains is much higher. He remarked that the government is ramping up food grain production and urged the other countries to do the same.

“India is a responsible country and is committed to provide all help that may be required. The Indian philosophy of the whole world being one family saw India helping the rest of the world with medicines and vaccines even during the lockdowns,” he asserted. The minister also stated that technology and innovation can play an imperative role in building resilience in global food systems. He emphasized on various efforts of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government in modernizing the agriculture sector.
