India-Sweden pledge for a carbon neutral future

India’s long term trade partner Sweden has launched the Green Transition Partnership (ISGTP) as a part of India-Sweden Sustainability and Green Transition Day event. The launch of Green Transition Partnership symbolises the two nation’s joint commitment to promote exchange of carbon-neutral business practices and solutions, promote localised innovations and share expertise and knowledge related to the green transition.

The team Sweden including – The Embassy of Sweden, the Consulate General of Sweden, and Business Sweden has played a crucial role over the years in building a sustainable and carbon neutral future with India. The launch of Green Transition Partnership symbolises the two nation’s joint commitment to promote exchange of carbon-neutral business practices and solutions, promote localised innovations and share expertise and knowledge related to the green transition.

Sweden has a significant footprint in India with around 250 operational businesses that are generating a significant number of jobs directly and indirectly. Moreover, in recent years, multiple dedicated MoUs related to Energy, Urban Development, Environment along with several mutual interests have been signed between India and Sweden.

With this partnership, six leading Swedish green thought companies – Absortech, Alfa Laval, Alleima, Hitachi Energy, KraftPowercon and SKF will collaborate with India’s leading companies to boost the speed of green transition, even for industrial sectors like cement, steel and automotive.

Addressing the top Swedish-Indian industry & government delegates, Jan Thesleff, Ambassador of Sweden to India said “this platform is an excellent example of how leading Swedish companies in India are joining hands with their Indian counterparts across hard to abate sectors in order to collectively build a strong, green, and clean future”.

The day was marked with 10-year celebration of another joint initiative – India-Sweden Innovations Accelerator (ISIA) program. Under this program, The Swedish Energy Agency, Business Sweden and CII-Godrej GBC are joint partners in promoting green energy and energy efficiency. To showcase innovative Swedish clean tech companies in an Indian smart city context, a dedicated showroom has been set-up at Business Sweden’s office in New Delhi.
