India, Finland review bilateral relations at 12th FOC

The discussion covered trade and investments, education, digital partnership, sustainability partnership, mobility, cultural relations and people-to-people contacts.

India and Finland held their 12th Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) on 01 November 2023 in New Delhi. The FOC reviewed bilateral relations, including political engagements, trade and investments, education, digital partnerships, sustainability partnerships, mobility, cultural relations and people-to-people contacts.

Discussions were also held on multilateral cooperation, including the Arctic and the reform of the UNSC (United Nations Security Council). 

The FOC provided an opportunity to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, including developments in the neighbourhood of India and Finland including the Ukraine conflict, according to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs.

The two countries carried out a comprehensive review before the second edition of India Nordic Baltic Business Conclave, scheduled this month. The Indian side was led by Shri Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs. The Finnish side was led by H.E. Mr. Jukka Salovaara, Permanent State Secretary of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

The second edition of the India Nordic Baltic Business Conclave will be organized later this month by an industry association in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs. Scheduled for November 22–23, 2023, in New Delhi, the Conclave will provide a forum for different stakeholders to undertake discussions covering key sectors of interest, develop new business partnerships, and pave the way for policy changes in future to facilitate these partnerships.

​The two nations, India and Finland, enjoy close and friendly relations and have regular exchanges at both political and official levels. The year 2024 will be the 75th year of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and both sides have agreed to celebrate it in a befitting manner.
