India & California partner on zero-emission vehicle

India and California have partnered to do research and innovate in the area of zero-emission vehicles in order to advance the growth of India’s nascent EV industry and mitigate climate threats.

The most advanced zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) regulations are found in California. By 2035, it wants to achieve 100% ZEV requirement. A new India ZEV Research Centre was created as part of the collaboration by the University of California’s Davis Institute of Transportation Studies. The California-India ZEV Policy programme aims to promote ZEV adoption in India, encourage the construction of an EV industry in India, and wants boost India’s industrial development. In addition to addressing policy, technology, and investment strategies for a ZEV transition, it would identify opportunities for India to emerge as a strategic leader in the global ZEV transition.

“While ZEV policies have been implemented in various parts of the world, the State of California is probably the only regional government to have the most comprehensive and oldest ZEV policy ecosystem,” stated Deputy Chief of Mission, Indian Embassy, Washington, D.C. Sripriya Ranganathan while a round table in Pittsburgh on ‘Accelerating ZEV Transitions: California-India Policy Cooperation’.
