Corporate demand for solar power through the ‘open access’ route is escalating remarkably, in spite of supply chain constraints and rising prices. The solar power open access is a system where a power producer establishes a solar power plant to supply green energy to the consumers.

A research report on Solar Open Access Market Q3 2022 by Mercom Research India, noted that the installation of ‘open access solar capacity’ in India increased by 91% to reach 596 megawatt (MW) in the July-September period this year. During the same period last year, there was an addition of about 312 MW of solar open access capacity in the country. As per the report, the state of Karnataka recorded the highest total solar open access capacity of nearly 2.7 GW. Maharashtra followed with 801 MW capacity installation.

Ms. Priya Sanjay, Managing Director at Mercom India informed, “The pipeline of projects to be commissioned is impressive and bigger than ever.” The top five states accounted for 74% of India’s cumulative open access solar installations. She further added that there is huge untapped potential among SMEs and MSMEs due to lack of awareness.
