15% hike on import duty of X-ray machines

The government recently announced amendments to the Finance Bill 2023, according to which there will be 15% hike in import duty of X-ray machines, starting April 1, 2023.

The Lok Sabha passed amendments to the Finance Bill 2023, according to which there will be 15% hike on customs duty on import of X-ray machines and non-portable –ray generators. The new rates would be applicable starting 1 April 2023.

Currently, portable X-ray machines and non-portable X-ray generators and apparatus attract 10% import duty.

Rajat Mohan, AMRG & Associates Senior Partner stated, “This is intended to improve barriers to manufacturing in India. This will encourage ‘Make In India’ to reduce import dependence in the niche sector.
