DESCRIPTION:Trade Promotion Council of India is organising a webinar on the topic  ‘Leveraging PLI scheme to push large-scale manufacturing in India’ at 3.15 pm on 17th June\, 2021 (Thursday).  \nGovernment of India announced an outlay of Rs 1.97 lakh crore for the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for 13 identified sectors in her 2021-22 budget speech. \nThe scheme\, aims to boost domestic manufacturing under the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative\, was introduced in March last year and is expected to result in a minimum production worth more than $500 billion in five years\, according to the Commerce Ministry. Till early April\, the PLI scheme for nine sectors was approved by the Cabinet. \nAs the name suggests\, the scheme provides incentives to companies for enhancing their domestic manufacturing apart from focusing on reducing import bills and improving the cost competitiveness of local goods. PLI scheme offers incentives on incremental sales for products manufactured in India. \nThe nine sectors for which the scheme has already been approved included electronic or technology products (Rs 5\,000 crore outlay for 5 years)\, pharmaceuticals drugs (Rs 15\,000 crore)\, telecom & networking products (Rs 12\,195 crore)\, food Products (Rs 10\,900 crore)\, high-efficiency solar PV modules (Rs 4\,500 crore)\, etc. The other four sectors under PLI awaiting Cabinet approval were automobiles & auto components\, advanced chemistry cell (ACC) battery\, textiles\, and specialty steel. \n  \nAgenda for discussion:\n• How best to create manufacturing entities with stipulated minimum Sales? \n• Integrating global standards model with trade and industry – with the thrust to PLI scheme. \n• Why are the standards key to make our products marketable and saleable in the international market? \n• Why adopting voluntary standards will lead to creating value-added products with global standards and thrusting exports in the long run? \n• How overseas branding and incentivising will help the emergence of strong Indian brands? \n• How best to support creation of manufacturing champions in India; suggestions from experts? \n• Will clusterization hold the key to success? \n• How feasible is it to meet the target minimum production worth $500 billion in five years? \n• Policies and programmes\, including regulatory and institutional frameworks \n• How to increase employment opportunities? \n• How SMEs could be integrated in the PLI scheme \n• How to ensure remunerative prices of the produce? \n• Strategy and way forward for India to benchmark quality under PLI \n• Industry’s take on scheme and challenge \n  \nConfirmed panellists:\n• Dr. Rajan Sudesh Ratna\, Economic Affairs Officer\, United Nations ESCAP \n• Kuntal Sensarma\, Economic Adviser\, Ministry of Food Processing Industries \n• Sudhendu Jyoti Sinha\, Adviser (Infrastructure Connectivity & Electric Mobility )\, Niti Aayog \n• Mohammad Athar\, Partner (Economic Development and Infrastructure)\, PwC \n• Ashish Agarwal\, Director\, Bhikharam Chandmal Bhujiawala Pvt. SUMMARY:SEZs: The key to boost India’s exports
DESCRIPTION:Trade Promotion Council of India is organising a webinar on the topic SEZs: The key to boost India’s exports at 3:00 pm IST on Friday\, 11th June\, 2021. The session will be conducted with prominent experts in the domain of trade. \nIn February 2021\, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry pointed out that SEZs have shown resilience during global trade volatility and have achieved US$ 100 billion of exports in FY 2019-20. Thus\, they continue to take the lead in expanding exports for India. However\, critics argue that Indian SEZs haven’t exactly mirrored the success of those in China. Given the fact that the government is busy preparing for the next SEZ policy and is most likely to retain and redraft the SEZ policy (which was found to be inconsistent with the WTO) as well as the international interest in supply chain diversification in the light of the pandemic\, we thought that this would make for an interesting topic for our viewers. \nThe panellists will talk about the performance of SEZs right from their evolution till this date\, the major considerations for the government while drafting the new SEZ policy\, experience of the gems and jewellery sector in SEZs\, making the SEZs sync with government’s recent initiatives and enhancing incentives\, manufacturing & exports. \n  \nConfirmed panellists\n1. Mr. ARM Reddy\, Zonal Development Commissioner\, Vishakhapatnam \n2. Mr. Sunil Rallan\, Chairman and Managing Director\, Chennai Free Trade Zone \n3. Mr. Neville Tata\, Executive Director\, Renaissance Jewellery Ltd \n4. Mr. Suvankar Sen\, Executive Director\, Senco Gold Ltd. \n5. Prof. Parthapratim Pal\, IIM Calcutta \n6. Mr. Harsh Hiroo Gursahani\, Counsel\, International Trade Laws and Food Laws\, PLR Chambers \n  \nTopics to be covered\n• Evolution and performance of SEZs in India \n• Major considerations for the government while drafting the new SEZ policy \n• Experience of the Indian gems & jewellery sector in SEZs \n• Legalities associated with SEZ provisions at WTO \n• Key lessons from global benchmarks \n• Aligning SEZs with Atma Nirbhar Bharat and ODOP initiatives of the Government of India \n• Enhancing incentives\, manufacturing & exports through SEZ policy framework and implementation. \n  \nFor further details on the event\, please contact Nikhaar Gogna at +91-98189 95401 or write to editorial@tpci.in. \nTo register Click here

SUMMARY:Mega Virtual Buyers Sellers Meet on Beauty & Wellness
DESCRIPTION:The Beauty & Personal Care market is thriving and one of the fastest growing consumer markets\, driven in particular by the Cosmetics and Skin Care segments. The main reason for this strong growth is the generational shift with young consumers entering the market. At the same time\, this change is reinforced by social media\, internationality\, and e-commerce\, which have a lasting effect on buying behaviour when it comes to beauty products. Trends from all over the world are spreading and changing the daily beauty and care routine.  \nThis substantial growth over the coming years is owing to the growing disposable income of consumers\, thus enabling them to spend on beauty & wellness products. While the personal care products segment for women is a prominent category\, the introduction of the men’s product line for grooming has bolstered the growth of the market extensively. Moreover\, the development of improvised and innovative products in the women’s line such as cosmeceutical and multifunctional products is expected to trigger the sales of personal care products in the coming years. \nTPCI is organising the Mega Virtual Buyer Seller Meet: “Indus- Beauty & Wellness Powered by TPCI”\, commencing from 15th February 2021\, which will facilitate the leaders of Indian beauty & wellness industry to have result oriented interactions with the prospective buyers from across the world. \nWHY ATTEND? \n• Interaction with global buyers which will help you to choose right business partner and even generate the new business queries\n• Meetings with buyers from different regions like Africa\, Asia\, Middle East\, Eastern Europe\, North America & Caribbean Islands\n• A closed-door web based interactivity with authentic buyers on cloud meeting platform\n• Opportunity to explore new markets in the most cost-effective way\n• Generate on-spot business orders. \nPRODUCTS PROFILE \n• Cosmetics\n• Skin Care\n• Hair Care\n• Oral Care\n• Baby Care\n• Fragrance\n• Bath & Shower\n• Men’s Grooming \nInterested members may kindly contact Mr. Shankar Bisht – shankar.bisht@tpci.in & Ms. Versha Kalra – versha.kalra@tpci.in  for participation and registration in the event.

As per FiBL and IFOAM Report OF 2019\, India has largest number of producers (835\,000) of organic foods with 1.8 million hectare of organic land. India produced around 1.70 million MT (2017-18) of certified organic products which includes oilseeds\, tea\, coffee\, cereals\, spices etc (APEDA). During 2017-18 the organic food export realization was around US$ 515.44 million to markets including USA\, European Union\, Canada\, Switzerland\, Australia\, Israel\, South Korea\, Vietnam\, New Zealand\, Japan etc. (APEDA). Of the US$ 57 billion worth exports to EU in 2018\, nearly US$ 2.3 billion of the products pertained to vegetables\, fruits\, cereals\, spices\, tea\, coffee\, oil seeds etc. The organic food market of EU is worth about € 30.7 billion per year\, but the region uses only 7% of its agricultural land for production of organic foods. The gap between production and demand is filled with the help of imports\, indicating that potential for exports to EU in organic food is considerable.
