Global stone trading revenues in 2014 totaled USD 23 billion, of which 75% were generated by processed products. The top five exporters are China, Italy, Turkey and India. The main products include marble and granite used for still flooring and interior decor. The United States is the largest importer of finished stone products, followed by Canada, Germany, France, Belgium, South Korea and Saudi Arabia. China led all countries in importing raw stone materials, followed by Taiwan.
World ceramic tile production reached 11,913 million square meter in 2013. India is theproducer of ceramic tiles after China and Brazil, but stands nowhere in the global exports. The Indian ceramic tile market reached INR 21,500 Crore in FY 2014.
Competition from domestic and foreign players and entry of big players in domestic market are major threats to the domestic industries in the sector. Still efficient manufacturing processes, Technology especially in growing areas like porcelain and vitrified tiles, supply chain management and distribution and branding have remained main factors in the success of the industry.
