Jet Airways crisis affects mango exports

The grounding of the 120-strong fleet of Jet Airways as a repercussion of the financial woes facing the international carrier, is now impacting exports of Alphonso mangoes to Europe & Gulf regions. The cancellation of booked Jet flights, coupled with the soaring fares of other cargo airlines (including the national carrier, Air India) is a double whammy for traders.

While this leaves the domestic market with a greater availability of the king of fruits, mango cultivators will have to bear the cost of this unforeseen development. When this service of Jet Airways, in collaboration with the (French) KLM Company, was operational, nearly 200 tons of myriad mango varieties were being exported from the country.
