First shipment to Afghanistan reaches Chabahar

India’s first export shipment to Afghanistan of around 500 tons of rice has reached Chabahar, according to Mr Khan Jan Alokozay, deputy chairman of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries. He also added that the second export shipment from Afghanistan is ready for dispatch via the port.

Chabahar is the most opportune access point to Iran from the Indian Ocean, and Iran plans to make it a transit hub to markets in the northern part of Indian Ocean and Central Asia. India, Afghanistan and Iran had signed the Chabahar agreement in 2016, to facilitate transport of goods and services between the three nations through the port.
